Kaohsiung's Dry Goods Market 三鳳中街

If you plan on being settled in Kaohsiung for the indefinite future, the San Feng Street Market is the place to stock up on pantry staples. It's at a very central location in Kaohsiung, just west of the train station.

Note that there are two entrances/exits.

Jian Guo 3rd Road Entrance

If you're heading west on Jian Guo 3rd Road (建國三路) from the train station, slow down once you're past the Zili 1st Road (自立一路) intersection and the market will be on your right. It looks like this. You really can't miss it if you look for the phoenix.

There will be parking at the mouth of the street.

Zhonghua 3rd Road Entrance

If you're coming south on Zhonghua 3rd Road (中華三路), after reaching the Jian Guo 3rd Road intersection you'll see the Sunny Bank on your right, the market will be directly to your left.
The market is covered which makes shopping in the rain possible.

***Be wary of scooters tearing out of invisible alleys and turning on to the market street, without looking (naturally).***
Aside from dry goods, meats, seafood, nuts, and spices, some shops near the Jian Guo 3rd Road entrance also carry toilet paper and laundry detergent.
To give you an idea of the prices. I've bought one jin (斤) of orange lentils for 45nt and a jin of dried chickpeas for 50nt. (one jin is half of a kilo)

Assorted teas.

The small bag of veggie chips on the upper right were 100nt per bag.

The best time to shop here is probably late afternoon after the crowds dim down before the shops close.

Best of luck,

Kat
