Want to Get Online Banking at E. Sun Bank? It'll Cost You.

Let's face it, you're not going to take that passbook to the machine next to the ATMs every time you want to know your bank account balance.

Fortunately, online banking is available to us foreigners--at almost more trouble than it's worth... almost.

I'm not sure whether it's the same for all foreigners or just Americans, but I highly suggest you prepare for applying for online banking even before you've opened your bank account so you just need to make one trip. Unlike banks in other places, in Taiwan, you have to apply for online banking in person. At the bank. It's really counter-intuitive.

Step 1

You'll need to fill out an Alien Residency Record Application Form.

Find it here: http://iff.immigration.gov.tw/public/Data/0991034471.pdf

I'm not sure when E. Sun started requiring foreigners to start filling out this form, but I'm pretty sure it started when they required you to fill out at an American W-9 Tax Form when you opened a bank account.

Take the filled out form, with a copy of your ARC and passport and 100NT to the Immigration Office and wait one processing day.

Step 2

Take the Alien Residency Record to the bank. I went to the branch on Siwei 4th Road. They'll ask you to fill out and sign a form.

Step 3

After you submit the form to them, they'll have somebody assist you with creating an Online ID and passport at the bank. Then you're set. Once you've logged in, you'll have the option of changing the online banking language between Chinese and English.
