How to Register your Kaohsiung iPass to Rent City Bikes in Four Steps
Cycling is the go to way to explore any part of Taiwan, even the cities. Luckily for us, Kaohsiung has a decent network of public bikes. If you have a iPass card and an ARC, register to use it at any bike station in the city! (It's cheaper and quicker than using a credit card!)
Go to the Kaohsiung Public Bike website at www.c-bike.com.tw . Click on "網路記名" (wǎng lù jìmíng) meaning, "internet registration."
Accept the Terms of Service "使用者條款" (shǐyòng zhě tiáokuǎn) and click "Next".
Step 2
The next window is "資料填寫" (zīliào tiánxiě), fill in your personal information here. The first box is for R.O.C. ID carriers, but if you have an ARC, put it in the second box. Click "Next" and a confirmation code should be sent to the phone number you entered.
Step 3
This page "驗證手機號碼" (yànzhèng shǒujī hàomǎ) is the text confirmation code verification. There is also a button to have the code resent since it expires after some time. Click "Next" after entering the code.
The last registration screen is "一卡通明馬" (yīkǎtōng míng mǎ) where you enter your iPass card number. Click "Next," and a small bubble will appear at the top-center of the window telling you the costs (free for the first hour and 10NT for each following half hour). And voila! You are a registered user of the Kaohsiung City Bikes!
For you tech buffs out there, I recommend the FREE bikeFriend app for Android. In my experience, it does a great job giving you a live feed of bikes that are available and return spaces at each bike station. This app is Taiwanwide with station feeds from Taipei, Kaohsiung, Changhua, and Taichung.

Happy Cycling!

Hey Kat! I'm still pretty new to Kaohsiung and my Chinese is still pretty terrible, so this is great stuff! Keep it coming :D

ReplyDeletewhat is an ARC number? are travelers allowed to register?
ReplyDeleteAn ARC is an Alien Resident Card. Usually foreigners who work in Taiwan have these. At the time I wrote this, only people who held an ARC could register to rent the bikes with iPasses, and travelers could only rent with a credit card, but this could've changed.
DeleteHello, an amazing Information dude. Thanks for sharing this nice information with us. Bike on rent app
